We live in extraordinary times of growth and opportunity, a time when we are challenging the very nature of reality itself. We are also co-creators of infinite possibility, one that's brimming with imagination and hope. And yet, paradoxically, we are also on the verge of economic and ecological catastrophe. The irony is that, just as a more enlightened worldview comes into focus, we are also on the brink of environmental collapse. One thing is for sure: our every action today will help shape the lives of our children's future.
To highlight this critical juncture, The Global Visionaries Project aims to identify many of those inspirers and innovators who are helping to light the way ahead. It shines a spotlight on the philanthropists and authors, the scientists and educators, who are all 'Being the change they want to see in the world'. And this project highlights many of the visionary initiatives that just some of these leaders and activists are involved in around the world; everyday, grounded activism that is helping to raise awareness, facilitate personal growth, and trigger a more sustainable, just and engaged way of living. What the Global Visionaries Project has set out to do, is comb the world and identify heads of NGOs, luminaries, philanthropists, spiritual teachers, educators and all those who are actively involved with the global transformation taking place, with the sole purpose of collecting together their thoughts, feelings, insights and hopes. To date, this worldwide project has pulled together over four hundred global visionaries and leaders, (across all cultures, and from all economic and social sectors), to commit to our exciting project. What we've been asking these change-makers to contribute is a 'Vision statement' of sorts; a powerful and uplifting message of hope that will encourage and inspire, lead and empower. And what these specially commissioned vision statements will do, is fuse together for what will be the first in a series of unique books, to publish in 2009: Visionaries for the 21st Century- 100 Words to Help Inspire the World. A similar format will also launch its first publication sometime throughout the same year: Young Visionaries for the 21st Century... This will feature the hopes and dreams from young global inspirers and leaders, aged between 15 and 30 years old. All profits from Visionaries... and Young Visionaries... will help to build the foundation to a non-profit organisation, The Imagination Project, a philanthropic programme that will identify, support and help fund young emerging writers and filmmakers, whose work is predominantly focused on issues related to the:
